STOP THESE LEADERS

It is disheartening to see our leaders, rallying their tribe’s men and women against other tribes. I believe that as Kenyans we should all unite against such attempts. We should actually use all means legally possible to stop hate speech. In my case, I may not be brave enough to come out like our activists, to the streets and fight it out with the law enforcement officers. But I believe that with a pen and paper, I can compose something which will still drive the point home.

I write this with a heavy heart
To you politician without a heart
You who rides inside a tinted car
With a heart as black as tar
Guarded by security men and women
Who shield you against women and men
Who ticked your name at the ballot with a pen

You stand in public rallies
Claiming to speak wisdom with your allies
But when you open your mouth
Verbal diarrhoea spills out
Which annoys our ears
And upsets our hearts for years

Your tongue is a sharp stick
Which injures us with a prick
You call innocent people to your rallies
And turn them against their allies
One tribe against another
And a brother rises against a brother
You sow discord among the people
And when the law descends on you like an eagle
From your tribal cocoon, you declare it illegal

Yes, you are honourable
But your actions make you dishonourable
You realize, don’t you?
That the verbal venom from you
Actually turns us
Against our soul mates
Or our workmates and classmates
Or our childhood playmates?
Star reasoning mheshimiwa
Before we rename you mwizi wa miwa

Mheshimiwa
As you call us to war
And make us sing songs of war
Brandishing weapons at one another
Where will be, your significant other
If not shopping in Dubai?
Or at home, sipping from a glass of divai?
Where will your sons and daughters be?
Well! Studying at Harvard the place to be
This is our nation
So stop sowing discord among God’s creation
